General product information

Airofit is a respiratory training system. The breathing trainer provides resistance on your breathing muscles, while the mobile app gives you live feedback and guidance through exercises, as well as, the ability to track your progress.

Airofit is the first and only truly smart breathing trainer on the market. We know that one size does not fit all, therefore all Airofit training programs are tailored to YOU – we take into consideration your age, size, gender, and preference. Airofit also measures your vital lung capacity and breathing muscle strength. We take all that data as a baseline for your training and enable you to start and progress through your training correctly.

Airofit is also the only breathing trainer that goes beyond simple respiratory muscle training (RMT). We also address other aspects of breathing, like Respiratory strength, Vital capacity, Anaerobic threshold, and relaxation. We ensure that you can train harder, recover faster and most importantly – perform better.

Airofit does not work the same as altitude training. Airofit is a respiratory training system. The breathing trainer provides resistance on your breathing muscles, while the mobile app gives you live feedback and guidance through exercises, as well as, the ability to track your progress.

Just like any other muscle group, your respiratory muscles can become stronger, faster and more efficient, which directly correlates to a better O2, therefore improving your physical performance.

In essence, elevation masks simply restrict airflow to your body while you are exercising, which is not only inefficient but also a bit dangerous. By training with an elevation mask that provides you with insufficient resistance, you lower the oxygen level, and raise the CO2 level in your blood. That is not the purpose of respiratory muscle training.

Training your respiratory muscles (as with Airofit) should be done separately, in a relaxed state and this will ensure that you actually work on strengthening your muscles. Also, Airofit will allow you to adjust the resistance to different levels, so that you can build up your strength just like you would by lifting weights with any other muscle training. On top of that, the Airofit breathing device, together with the mobile app, offers you live guidance through each session, live feedback and the ability to track your progress.

When developed by AMBU, Airofit was originally designed as an asthma and COPD aid. Respiratory training is known to help with asthma symptoms.

In asthmatics, variety in tidal volumes is very common – their breathing muscles are working far from the optimal capacity. This makes them inactive and results in dyspnea/shortness of breath. This becomes most obvious during exercise, so you waste even more energy on breathing alone.

We are working with several asthmatics and COPD patients and their feedback is great – from easier asthma medication inhalation to lack of symptoms altogether. However, there are many different types and degrees of asthma, so we strongly recommend you first consult with your doctor about respiratory training.

The beauty of Airofit is that it can and should be used by anyone – from Olympic athletes to non-athletes who just want to become better versions of their current selves.

It is not recommended that people share the device, for two reasons:

  1. The product is designed so that one user can reach their full potential, which requires training every day, 5-10 minutes twice a day. For this reason, it may complicate training if you are trying to share one device.
  2. For sanitary reasons, we cannot recommend that you share a device, as you cannot wash the whole device (you can wash the passive unit without the electronics and the mouthpiece), we cannot assure 100% that when you clean the device, all the bacteria will be gone.

If you, however, decide to share the device, please make sure that you use different phones and different accounts, so your results don’t mix up 🙂

There is no age limitation to using Airofit. However, the mobile app does not let you register if you are under 13. This is because your results are measured compared to an average of an individual the same age – there is simply no quantitative respiratory data on children below 13. You can still use Airofit and all its features if you’re younger, but the data will be compared to a 13-year-old.

If you are under 15, we strongly advise training with adult supervision.

The Pro will offer Bluetooth connectivity allowing for live program guidance, feedback, and progress tracking. The Active, is the exact same as the Pro in terms of design, look and feel. However, the Active will not have Bluetooth connectivity, and thus you would not receive progression tracking or live feedback on how you are performing the training sessions.

The PRO 2.0 brings great new features and refinements:

Advanced Lung test

Take the most comprehensive lung test in the world divided into 3 steps and get a super precise measurement of your accessible lung capacity, inhale and exhale strength.

Improved guidance

Get detailed guidance on your breath training together with more accurate feedback on your performance to understand and practice different breathing patterns.

More accurate results

Eliminate external factors from affecting your training and test results. Our new way of measuring your breath will ensure there’s minimal deviation in your training data.

Better peer comparison

Comparison with your peers and their breathing training performance has never been so accurate. Get the suggestions from our app and find out where you’re ahead of your peer group and where you should improve.

️ Optimized hardware

Enjoy your breathing training with compact and durable hardware. A newly designed e-unit and magnetic charging method will secure that your Airofit is saliva & splash resistant. Moreover, a long-lasting battery (4-7 days) ensures that you can train with Airofit anytime and anywhere.

The difference lies in the program setup: the Pro 2.0 provides a choice of focus areas 17 different breathing exercises and a daily suggested program for you to meet any of your physical needs. It provides 30 days of training data and has advanced improvement tracking of your lung capacity and inspiratory and expiratory pressure.

Essential is a perfect start for you who are just willing to begin your journey to better breathing. It includes 4 essential training sessions designed to develop the core of your breathing foundation. It also provides 30 days of training data and a lung measurement function; however, it excludes advanced statistic overview and daily training program.

Essential provides Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to measure lung capacity and receive live program guidance, which Active does not include. In addition, Essential adjusts the breathing exercises according to your physical state and gives you access to 30 days of training data to track the progress.

Active is a simplified method of improving your breathing: it does not offer Bluetooth connectivity and so excludes live training guidance and lung function measurement. It provides prescribed breathing exercises and a simple training overview of the time spent training.

Training

Airofit is a respiratory muscle trainer that works by giving resistance to your breathing. It trains both the inspiratory and expiratory functions, covering the entire area of breathing muscles. Airofit is small and handheld, and utilized by placing it in the mouth and blowing through it. On the device, you adjust two different wheels to increase or reduce the resistance – one for inspiratory and one for expiratory breathing.

The way your training works depends on whether you have an Airofit Pro, Essential, or Active.
Airofit Pro and Essential connects to your phone with live training, guidance, and feedback, while Airofit Active is a standalone device with app instruction only.
Airofit Pro covers many different training sessions and programs, while Airofit Essential covers 4 core training sessions – you can however expand this by upgrading to our subscription.

How the training is executed depends on the specific training sessions. All sessions are guided, you just have to follow in on-screen instructions.
Below you find an illustrative guide on a typical training session with Airofit.

The parameters that are measured and presented in the app are your Accessible Lung Capacity (ALC), Maximal Inspiratory Pressure (MIP), and Maximal Expiratory Pressure (MEP) at the given resistances.
Pressure is measured in CM H20 (Centimeters of water pressure) and capacity is measured in Liters

The Airofit system contains pressure sensors and translates the pressure into vital capacity and peak pressure. This indicates the inspiratory and expiratory strength. In theory, it is created by algorithms, correlating pressure and flow into volume.

Select the “Activity” icon on the navigation panel at the bottom of your screen. Here you can find your training progress and statistics.

Yes! The app and its content will constantly be under development, and new training sessions and programs will be added.

We recommend you train your breathing every day. Remember that it is not about training for a long period of time. 10-15 minutes a day is more than enough but consistency is key!

If you train daily, we do recommend you split your program into two and train twice a day. The best results are obtained when you complete two training sessions at different times of the day.

You should be relaxed and standing or sitting upright. Hold the trainer with your hand on the E-Unit (black part on the main body). Make sure that the openings near the wheels are not obstructed. Now place the trainer in your mouth so that your lips cover the outer shield of the mouthpiece to make a seal. Look straight forward, looking down can cause more salivating.

Airofit should be used outside of any physical activities. The best way to train with Airofit is to sit down, relax, and focus only on training your breath.

App settings & features

Maintenance & Cleaning

Always remove the E-unit before cleaning with water or other liquids!

After each training we recommend that you wash the device in warm water, shake off excess water and blow through the device to remove water that might still be inside the device. Dry fully with a clean towel.

  • Let the e-unit fully charge (at least three hours or overnight) at least once a month, even when not in use 🙂
  • Do not assemble your device immediately after it has been cleaned.
  • Make sure that your E-Unit stays as dry as possible.
  • Do not store your device uncharged for a long period of time.
